When the entire pandemic situation struck, families were forced to shelter at home in order to avoid contagion and this meant that the entire world had to shift overnight. With that being said, parents had to stay at home and work, and manage to continue raising their children, educate them, and work at home all at the same time. It was truly chaotic at the beginning, and parents had to manage a scenario that could work and was organized enough for them to be able to work properly.
1. Divide Spaces
Dividing spaces at home is necessary in order to avoid getting flustered. You need to organize spaces that are designated for different types of activities, for both you and your children. Try to create a space for your children specifically for doing homework, and studying or taking online classes. You need this space in order for them to be more productive when they are sitting here, if you avoid creating that workspace, then the kids will be distracted and won’t focus in their educational activities. Some parents, you can decide to have her children take their closets and do their homework right in front of the TV and the living room where they normally spend their time in. This is quite conflicting as they don’t know how to separate the fun from study time.
The same thing can happen for you as a parent, if you don’t set a space for you to work, you will find it complicated, and even distracting to be working somewhere that you usually do another activity. If you have the opportunity, take on a desk, and leave all of your work-related stuff there. That way you will know that when you are sitting in this place it is only strictly business.
2. Distract The Kids While You Are Working
When you are working, you need your entire focus and attention on your business. The main point here is looking for activities that might distract your kids while you are at work so that you don’t have to attend their needs every second of the day.The most important part, is to let your kids know that you are going to be unavailable and busy for a couple of hours, let them know when your work is over and when they can disturb you again. Make sure, they set out some activities for them to do meanwhile, watching TV, drawing, painting, going to the backyard. The main point is for you to avoid getting distracted from work by your kids. Even if you were going to be very attentive and aware of their presence, you can still manage to focus on work so they are entertained with something else.
3. Get A Schedule That Works
Making a schedule is quite necessary especially when everybody is at home. You want to have a time for everything so that you are not mixing times and activities with everyone. The fact that everybody is at home at the same time, because of the quarantine period means that it can get very overwhelming, for that reason make sure that you make a schedule that establishes activities, working times, and free time for everybody.
